Why Does the Church Matter?
Some say “I have a personal relationship with Jesus, but I don’t need the church.” These may have a “zeal for God, but not according to knowledge” and thus “have not submitted to the righteousness of God” (Romans 10:2-3). Let us reason together.
- The Bible teaches that Jesus is the head, the church is His body, “… and He is the Savior of the body” (Ephesians 1:22-23; 5:23). Since He is the Savior of the body (the church), why would I say that I don’t need the church?!
- What importance does the Father place upon the church? He planned that “the manifold wisdom of God might be made known by the church” (Ephesians 3:10).
- What importance does Jesus place upon the church? “He gave Himself for it” (Ephesians 5:25).
- What importance does the Holy Spirit place upon the church? “For by one Spirit we were all baptized into one body” (1 Corinthians 12:13).
We cannot have a relationship with the head unless we are in His body. If we are not in the church, we are not in Jesus. And if we are not in Jesus, we have no access to the Father or heaven (John 14:6). Read the Bible to find the importance of the church.
