"With the Stroke of a Pen"
On July 11, 2008, the “Today” show interviewed a Catholic priest concerning the marriage advice that he offers to high school students. He offered some sound, practical advice (though he did not mention God or the Bible even once during the interview).
Near the end of the interview, the hosts jokingly noted how the priest was not available to be married, to which he replied “Well, who knows. The pope can change that with the stroke of a pen.” Very interesting… If the “Pope’s pen” could change this teaching, what else may he change?
Could “the stroke of a pen” permit homosexuality? If not, why not?
Could it make abortion acceptable? If not, why not?
The Catholic church opposes these things now, but could the “stroke of a pen” change that?
What about the Catholic teaching of celibacy? “…where was it from? From heaven or from men?” We discuss that in our article titled Celibacy. Read it and then, let us hear from you, your priest, or your pastor on these matters.
