Purpose of the One Baptism

While it may appear that there are many reasons for baptism, in reality, all of the reasons listed below mean the same thing. To be saved means the same as to have sins washed away. Those mean the same as being in one body and being in Christ. Knowing that, consider God’s revealed purpose for baptism VERSUS man’s purposes for baptism--

  • to be saved (Mark 16:16)
  • for the remission of sins (Acts 2:38)
  • wash away sins (Acts 22:16)
  • to gain access to Christ, His death (Romans 6:3)
  • to be in one body [the church] (1 Corinthians 12:13)
  • faith in the working of God (Colossians 2:12)
