Lessons From Noah About Life
Let’s notice what the life of Noah teaches about life--
- Life is short. Noah lived nine hundred and fifty years (Genesis 9:29; do you believe the Bible?). Our life quickly passes. Since we spend one-fourth of our life asleep, the way we use the remaining three-fourths of our life will determine our eternity. Choose wisely, choose quickly (James 4:13ff).
- God’s view of human life. Whoever sheds man’s blood, by man his blood shall be shed; for in the image of God He made man (Genesis 9:6). Thus, can Christians object to capital punishment, or approve abortion (Romans 13:1-4)? Human life is superior to all other forms of life on earth.
- Wine wrecks lives. The use of alcohol resulted in sin for Noah and his sons (Genesis 9:20ff). An article in Time advised parents to drink alcohol with their children as a means of curbing alcohol abuse. The Spirit’s words “Do not be drunk with wine” are practically lost from churches today (Ephesians 5:18). To be drunk simply means to be under the influence of alcohol, which even the medical community agrees, begins with “just” a glass of wine or a beer or two.
