Jehovah's Witnesses and the Deity of Jesus

The “Jehovah’s Witnesses” (JW) say “Jesus was a created spirit being, just as angels were spirit beings created by God.” (source). What does the Bible say?

  • For by Him all things were created that are in heaven and that are on earth… (Colossians 1:16). If Jesus created all things, then He cannot be a “created spirit being.” The JW’s Bible (NWT) adds the word “other” to this verse: “For by Him all [other] things were created” in an attempt to teach that Jesus created all things except Himself.
  • And Thomas answered and said to Him, "My Lord and my God!" Jesus said to him, "Thomas, because you have seen Me, you have believed. Blessed are those who have not seen and yet have believed." (John 20:28-29). What would you say if someone called you “My Lord and my God”? Did Jesus accept Thomas’ words or rebuke Thomas when he identified Jesus as God?
