Is It Possible: To Understand The Bible Alike?

A common belief today is that we cannot understand the Bible alike (“one interpretation is as good as another”). This is one reason why there are so many differing churches and doctrines. Is this a sound belief? Is it possible for us to understand the Bible alike? Let us reason together.

When you give your children instructions, is “one interpretation as good as another”? No parent believes that. Neither does our heavenly Father.

Were Adam/Eve allowed to have their own interpretation of God’s instruction regarding fruits? Could Israel have their own interpretation of the Ten Commandments?

Paul taught Greeks, Romans, and Jews the same message “everywhere in every church” (1 Corinthians 4:17). Rich, poor, master, slave, woman, and man were told to understand God’s will and “speak the same thing,” not to have their own interpretation (Ephesians 5:17; 1 Corinthians 1:10).

There are many answers offered to questions about God’s existence, salvation in Jesus, Adam’s sin, becoming a Christian, tithing today, etc. Is one answer as good as another? We need to understand what God has said instead of being satisfied with our own interpretation.

All have the God-given duty to search the Scriptures, reason together, and be united in the one faith (Acts 17:11; Isaiah 1:18; Ephesians 4:4). If we can help in that process, email any questions or comments.
