Is It Possible: To Know Where to Find the Words Which God Has Spoken?

Many religious groups claim to have received revelation from God. Notice a few such claims-

The Mormon Church claims the “truth and divinity of the Book of Mormon” Introduction to The Book of Mormon

Jehovah’s Witnesses claim that around 1879 “. . . truths began to appear in The Watch Tower, which since then until now has been the means of communicating truth to those who love the Lord.” Rutherford, J.F., Light, p12.

Catholic Church teaches that the “Pope’s” ability to speak infallibly (when speaking ex cathedra) “is a dogma Divinely revealed.” (www.newadvent.org/cathen/05677a.htm)

The Methodist Church (before becoming The United Methodist Church) “We have therefore expected that the DISCIPLINE would be . . . a revelation of the Holy Spirit . . .” Doctrines & Discipline of the Methodist Church (1956) pg 1

Let us reason together. Are these claims true? How can we know when and where God has spoken? Here’s three tests to apply to any claim (and references showing that the Bible meets each test).

  1. Prophecy Micah 5:2 (Matthew 2:1)
  2. Miraculous confirmation documented by eyewitnesses Mark 16:20 (2 Peter. 1:16)
  3. Internal consistency John 10:35 + No proven Scriptural contradiction

Knowing that the Bible is the place where God’s word is recorded, we may disregard all other claims (Galatians 1:8). Each text from various religious groups (top) contradicts the teaching of the Bible in multiple ways, and thus proves itself to lack the integrity of God’s word.

Be a noble-minded workman and search the Scriptures to see whether these things are so (2 Timothy 2:15; Acts 17:11). We welcome comments or questions.
