God’s Permission, Pianos, & PowerPoint

Some people accuse churches of Christ of being inconsistent for refusing to worship with instrumental music while using PowerPoint since the New Testament mentions neither. Why will we use one and not the other?

It is because the NT contains God’s permission to use PowerPoint but lacks permission to worship by playing musical instruments.

“Teach the truth” is God’s command. The New Testament records both verbal and written teaching. PowerPoint is simply written teaching thus we clearly have God’s permission to use it.

No permission exists in the New Testament to worship God with instruments today. It is not in the worship of the church in Scripture, despite the Jewish background of many Christians. “Borrowing” from God’s law for Israel binds us to all of that law (Galatians 5:3).

We have God’s permission to worship by singing music (1 Corinthians 14:15). No one today has God’s permission to worship by playing music.
