Basics of Baptism
Study the Bible to find out if these things are true about the one baptism (Ephesians 4:5):
- Jesus’ blood washes us from sin in baptism (Romans 6:3) We are baptized into Christ’s death, which is when His body and blood were given. So, access to His blood is not possible without baptism, according to Paul.
- Happens after belief (Mark 16:16) The Bible never records “infant baptism,” only people believing and then being baptized.
- Means immersion (Romans 6:4, buried) To claim that you were baptized by being sprinkled with water is like saying that you were running by hopping. Running is not hopping, and baptism is not sprinkling.
- In water (Acts 8:38)
- For the remission of sins (Acts 2:38; Matthew 26:28)
- Adds us by the Spirit to the church (1 Corinthians 12:13) Is your church in the Bible?
- Is a part of calling on the name of the Lord (Acts 22:16) We cannot call upon the Lord for salvation without baptism.
- Saves us (1 Peter 3:21)
