Have a “Super Day”

As a part of the hospitality training for the Super Bowl Volunteers, we were trained to end every conversation with a visitor to Indianapolis with the phrase, “Have a Super Day!” A bit of Hoosier corn seed? I will let you decide that. But, it did get me to thinking about what would make for a super day.

A “Super Day” is any day that God is in and we are alive. Bro. Wilbur Jacobs would often pray, even in the worst of weather, “We thank you for this beautiful day because every day is beautiful with you in it.” If we wake up on the top side of the grass, it is a good day for every day is a gift from God and we know that every gift from God is a good gift. Every good and perfect gift comes down from God (James 1:17).

A day with children of grandchildren is a “Super Day.” They are a heritage and gift from God (Psa. 127:3). I know they can be trying sometimes, but don’t we all need a little more patience? David says that children are a heritage from God and happy is the man whose quiver is full (Psa. 127:5). What a privilege it is to help shape the faith of a future generation! Through our children and grandchildren we can leave a lasting legacy.

Any day our light can shine is a “Super Day.” Jesus acknowledges in the Sermon on the Mount that if we let our light shine that the world may not like us or even persecute us (Mat. 5:10-12). However, think of the compliment that the world is paying us when they treat us as they did the prophets before us. The day our light shines we show others our Father that they might be lead to giving Him glory. As the light and salt of the world, we are valuable commodities (Mat. 5:13-16). We have something to offer the world that it desperately needs. It is a “Super Day” when we can let our light shine.

Any day we can come into the presence of a righteous and holy God is a “Super Day.” On our own we are not worthy to come before Him. Before Israel could come before God at Mt. Sinai the people had to consecrate themselves (Ex. 19:10-15). They cleaned their garments and cleansed their hearts. David asked who can ascend the holy hill: not just anyone (Psa. 24:3-4). The one who could ascend were special people. Those with clean hearts and hands are the only ones allowed to ascend that holy hill. If we are allowed into the presence of God, is that not a “Super Day?”

A day of service to others, a day teaching someone else the Gospel, mowing someone else’s’ lawn, shoveling someone else’s walk, cooking super for a shut-in and knowing that you aren’t a shut in yourself- aren’t these all “Super Days?” The Super Bowl Host Committee asks that we give “super service.” Isn’t any day blessed that we are able to serve others? That must mean that we have the health, resources, time and opportunity to help others. I’d say that makes for a “Super Day.” May you have a “Super Day!”
